John Haughee, born in 1926, in Mecca, Park Co. Indiana (covered bridge country), shares memories of his early life growing up in a family of nine, school days in the 30’s, and becoming a teacher. Highlights include while in grade 4 he was asked by his teacher to deliver a message to the High School located over a mile away down the road and over the covered bridge. He joined the Navy 1944 and served on the U.S.S. Alabama during WWII. He contributed to the book The Mighty A and the Men Who Made Her Mighty, compiled by Rebecca and Heidi Brown. Excerpts from the book are read aloud by John.
