Facilities Coordinator

Join a public library team that serves over 100,000 area residents! Provide leadership and hands on facilities management of five buildings. Tippecanoe County Public Library seeks an individual with a strong work ethic to join our team as Facilities Coordinator. The successful candidate will:


  • Oversee maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Evaluate and recommend service contracts for outsourced maintenance services
  • Select, train, motivate, lead, and direct the workflow of two staff members
  • Handle minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs
  • Establish and initiate priorities for goals and objectives


Must be able to work independently, proactively, and have good interpersonal communication skills. Supervisory experience in a facilities management capacity, or equivalent training and experience, is required. Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license. TCPL has an excellent benefits package. Starting pay is commensurate with relevant work experience, skills and education $18.00/hr – 20.00/hr. POSITION TITLE:  Facilities Coordinator
DEPARTMENT:  Facilities
FLSA:            Non-Exempt
SUPERVISOR:  Library Director



Direct and oversee operations for main library and all outbuildings. Responsible for daily and long term upkeep of buildings, grounds and all operating systems in an efficient and cost effective manner.



Evaluate and purchase all supplies and equipment for department
Hire and train staff
Evaluate and recommend service contracts
Schedule and inspect all work
Knowledge of and ability to comply with OSHA, ADA, and city codes concerning health, safety, and environmental concerns
Maintain a rapport with all departments
Deal with vendors in a reputable and professional manner
Schedule all preventative maintenance
Handle minor electrical and plumbing problems
Coordinate grounds and landscape work
Manage snow removal
Coordinate all recycling efforts
Coordinate courier schedule and library vehicle usage
Work with city engineers and other officials to aid the library in any future expansion
Coordinate and monitor all security systems
Work with school officials as well as other government agencies
Must be on call 24 hours/7 days in case of emergency
Deal with disturbances and problem users
Understand the necessity of, and maintain, confidentiality of library use
Know and apply all library policies
Act as staff member in charge of library as needed
Other duties as assigned and /or required




Bachelor of Science Degree in Facilities Management preferred


            Previous experience:

Five years supervisory experience in facilities management or any equivalent combination of training and experience to indicate ability to do the job



Must have a keen eye for detail

Must be able to effectively ascertain and handle problematic situations
Must be able to read and understand blueprints, schematics and electrical drawings
Must be able to think analytically and act responsively in crisis situations
Must have the capacity to handle multiple tasks
Must have excellent housekeeping skills
Must have maintenance and training skills
Must have a high energy level
Must have a solid knowledge of all housekeeping chemicals
Must have a working knowledge of all building trades



Valid Indiana drivers license required



This position involves a continuous succession of standing, carrying, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, squatting, bending, and tolerating sometimes-caustic odors. Weight lifted and carried: 1-70lbs. Work is performed primarily in a library environment and on library grounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate with varying degrees of dust and temperatures. Flexible work hours include evening and weekend requirements.
