A passion for excellent library services and well developed leadership skills is absolutely required to assist the County Librarian in the daily operation and management of the library staff, materials, facilities and other resources. The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal, people and communications skills with a strong background in community and stakeholder engagement. Expertise in any one of the following areas is highly desirable: fundraising and development, marketing and publications, or building projects.

Must be committed to quality customer service, have an excellent public service orientation and the ability to work with diverse customers. ALA accredited MLS required. This is a 40-hour position with occasional evenings and weekends required. Starting salary is commensurate with relevant work experience, skills and education $56,160 – $62,400/year. POSITION TITLE: Assistant County Librarian
DEPARTMENT: Administration

SALARY SCHEDULE CLASSIFICATION: Assistant Director

JOB OBJECTIVE:
Assist the director in furthering the library’s mission and accomplishing the goals established in the long range plan. Provide leadership to the library staff and represent the library in the community in a professional manner. Aid in the daily operation and management of the library, its materials, facilities, and staff, efficiently and effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the Director with planning, goal setting, preparation of administrative and Budget reports, research and implementation of the directives of the Board Of Trustees
Assist in the coordination of the goals, staff, services, and budgets of the library departments
Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the library in consultation with the director
Coordinate the public relations efforts of the departments and assist in the overall marketing of the library
Conduct various personnel management activities, including interviewing and hiring professional staff, advise managers regarding personnel actions or problems, make recommendations regarding personnel such as appointments, transfers, promotions, pay increase, and disciplinary actions
Consult with department managers and Administrative Team regarding planning and developing projects or services; communicates with managers any plans, Policies, and procedures as adopted through regular meetings, memos, or Individual consultation
Research and implement special projects on an ad hoc basis in concert with other relevant personnel
Coordinate staff development opportunities and advise department heads on planning and training programs for staff
Oversee ADA compliance as it relates to library services
Participate in managing the library’s collections of materials
Know, apply and assist in the development of, library policies
Deal with disturbances and problem users
Understand the necessity of, and maintain, the confidentiality of library use
Promote a service-oriented outlook among all staff
Participate effectively and contribute to the discussions and decisions of the Administrative Team
Act as liaison with the Friends of the Library; assist the group with its planning, Goal setting, budgeting, and programming
Act as liaison to the regional library networks
Represent the library to community and civic organizations
Participate in state and national library associations
Administer all library operations and activities in the absence of the director
Attend board meetings
Other duties as assigned and/or required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
MLS from an ALA accredited school

Previous experience:
Three years of supervisory or management experience as assistant director or
Department Head of a public library

Skills:
Must have a broad knowledge of the principles and details of librarianship,
Personnel practice, administration, public relations, and financial Management
Must be able to keep track of the latest trends and technology in library services
Must be able to analyze and compare the products of vendors and their credibility
Must have problem solving skills, particularly the ability to zero in on problems In areas not dealt with before, and accelerate into the learning curve in order to solve them
Must be able to effectively ascertain and handle problematic situations
Must have the ability to plan, orchestrate, and implement services and projects
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working and advisory Relationships
Must be able to speak and write effectively

License/Certification:
Indiana Certificate of Librarianship II

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Must be able to work at a computer terminal for 55 minutes at a time
