The design is the work of architects: Pecsok, Jelliffe, Randall & Nice/Schuette, Mohler & Associates. Since its construction the downtown library has had 3 interior remodels. krM Architecture from Anderson, Indiana designed expanded meeting rooms and office space in 2005. In 2008, the Youth Room was remodeled with advice from Robbins Library Interiors, Indianapolis. In 2012, an interior remodel designed by The Troyer Group, Mishawaka, created The Portal and renovated parts of the nearby Stein Building for office use. The Downtown Library also features the fully operational Heartland Odyssey Sculpture in our youth room.
The Downtown Library was built as the replacement for the Albert A. Wells Memorial Library, located on North Street.
Now the home of the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, the former library is known as the Wells Community Cultural Center.
The Downtown Library was constructed through a bond issue in 1988 and opened in October of 1989.
The Downtown Library opened with over 140,000 volumes. By 2011 the number of volumes had expanded to over 301,000 and in 2011 the Downtown Library had over 500,000 people pass through our doors.
